Pupils' Reflection

Chinese New Year is the festival that I look forward to most. It starts with the New Moon on the first day and ends on the full moon 15 days later.

My family started the preparation weeks before Chinese New Year. We bought a lot of snacks, beverages, and a candy tray called “Tray of Togetherness.” We also bought tangerines and pots of plants.

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day were celebrated as a family affair. It was a time of reunion and thanksgiving. We had a sumptuous reunion dinner and stayed late.

On the first day of the Chinese New Year, we wore our beautiful new clothes, and greeted our elders and relatives. I was thrilled to collect many “Ang Baos” this year and I stuffed myself with all kinds of goodies.

It was interesting to learn that we were not allowed to wash clothes and sweep the house as we would sweep or wash away the good luck and wealth. What a good day for everyone to rest and relax!
